Domestic Abuse Respite rooms

Respite Rooms Trial Programme

The programme will trial an approach to providing a safe, single-gender space for a short period of time with intensive trauma-informed support to make choices and decisions around next steps to recovery.

It will look to support individuals with a focus on women who are not likely to approach statutory services or the National Domestic Abuse helpline and who may have been living on the streets or in otherwise very precarious situations with histories of domestic abuse/ wider violence against women and girls.

Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Trident Reach launched the Respite Rooms Service at the end of 2021. The service offers four units of accommodation staffed 24/7 along with intensive support to women. Domestic Abuse Rough Sleeper Navigators work closely with Trident Reach’s wider homeless service teams, such as the Rough Sleeper Outreach Team, and other providers of homeless services to quickly identify and respond to need. We seek to develop trusted relationships with females who are rough sleeping, precariously housed or placing refuge accommodation at risk to be able to offer alternative safe accommodation and support.

The Lead Worker acts as a “navigator,” providing a vital link between the individual and other appropriate services, including specialist domestic abuse services, legal advice, access to health and wellbeing services, support with substance misuse and mental health services. The service will build resilience and recovery, improve wellbeing and develop a pathway into more sustained housing and support.
