“The last few years have
been incredibly difficult with a pandemic, the Afghan crisis and war in
Ukraine. Now, more than ever we need to come together in solidarity to heal and
celebrate together.
The theme for this year’s Refugee Week is Healing.
Birmingham City Council and Near Neighbours are planning an event that
aims to bring together disparate communities in recognition of our human
and shared ability to heal. The event will promote acceptance and cohesion and
raise awareness of refugee issues, health and well-being and the importance of
our environment.
We will celebrate healing and unity through dance, song,
spoken word and music, with performances from Brum’s varied communities that
want to share their culture and come together to showcase Birmingham’s
brilliant diversity.
There will be information stalls / talks from projects
and organisations that provide health and wellbeing services, and from projects
/ groups that highlight the importance of the natural world for wellbeing -
healing using parks, green spaces.
Climate change is also related to refugee issues and can
be a cause for people becoming displaced, we will have stalls and talks from
groups concerned with the protection of our planet, and we will have stalls and
talks from refugee and asylum organisations.
We’d really appreciate your support and involvement to
make this event a healing, happy, coming together of people that will raise
awareness about Refugee Week and other important issues”.
