Changing Places toilets programme round 2: prospectus

NNS have been asked to share this information about the Government's Changing Places toilets programme. Our local Birmingham organisations who are interested need to put up about half of the cost and Birmingham City Council will add the other half to the bid.

Please share if you think it relevant to any partner organisations who may be interested in submitting a bid alongside BCC for Changing Places Grant funding. Organisations usually need to contribute around half the funding themselves (10k-20k) and BCC can then support the bid for the other half of the funding to be matched by the changing places scheme. If you could please publicise widely and ask organisations to run through the information on the link attached and contact Maria Gavin from BCC directly if they meet the criteria and would like to bid. The closing date for bids is 30th September.

The prospectus for the second round of the £30 million Changing Places toilets programme

Details

More than 250,000 severely disabled people across the UK do not have access to public toilet facilities that meet their needs. Changing Places toilets open up public places to this group and their families, enabling them to enjoy the same experiences as everyone else.

Changing Places toilets are larger accessible toilets for severely disabled people, with equipment such as hoists, privacy screens, adult-sized changing benches, peninsula toilets and space for carers.

The government wants to see a step change in the number of Changing Places toilets across the country. This is why at Budget 2021, the Chancellor announced a fund of up to £30 million Changing Places Fund to accelerate the provision in existing buildings in England.

This prospectus builds on the outcome of the first round of the Changing Places Fund and sets out how eligible local authorities can access this second and final round. Expressions of interest must be submitted by 30 September 2022.
