We wish to invite you to take part in our Fifty+ Festival of activities running from 7th to 20th October 2024 in Sutton Coldfield.
The Fifty+ Festival Sutton Coldfield will be a fortnight of
health and wellbeing activities taking place across the constituency of Sutton
Coldfield during October 2024. The Festival is aimed at all local residents
over the age of 50 including:
· People
in their 50s to 60s reflecting on how to maintain their health and fitness as
they look towards older age
·
People
of retirement age and over, understanding the measures they can start taking now
to maintain independence, for longer
·
Families and carers looking after older residents who have long term
health conditions, care and support needs and mobility difficulties which
affect their independence.
The aim of our
Fifty+ Festival is to raise awareness amongst local residents about health
issues they may start to encounter in later life, reduce the risk of things
like falls in older age, manage or even avoid long-term health conditions and
just feel healthier and happier, for longer.
We are inviting local groups and services to take part in the Fifty+ Festival by running a support session or a health and wellbeing activity at your local venue in Sutton Coldfield.
Here are some ideas of the type of local activities we are inviting you to run:
· Gentle exercise, accessible-sport and wellbeing activities
· Health checks, reviews and advice
· Support from the NHS, Social Care and the VCFSE (Voluntary Community Faith and Social Enterprise) Sector
· Advice from health experts, have a personal health MOT
· Find out how to assess, monitor and manage your condition and impairment through diet, activity, medication, social interaction and exercise
· Help to evaluate the risks in your home and community, are you living your best, most active and happiest life, but also the safest?
· Friendships and relationships, meet other people from all age and diversity groups, preventing isolation whilst joining local activities
The Fifty+ Festival will offer a wide range of local activities across Sutton Coldfield between Monday 7th – Sunday 20th October 2024. We are putting out an appeal to services, organisations and groups wishing to participate during the fortnight by running activities.
It could be a health check day in your GP surgery or clinic, a tea-dance in your church hall, a yoga session or a nature walk through Sutton Park, a game of walking football or wheelchair netball or an open day at the local community centre. Tell us what you are planning as we will publish a brochure of information and a diary of activities closer to the date.
If you would like to participate in our Fifty+ Festival Sutton Coldfield by running a free local activity at your venue, then please complete a 'get-involved' form, available form the NNS email address below, telling us what you would like to do, when and where the activity will take place and whether you wish to be included in the promotional brochure.
