Dear Partners
We
know there has been a great deal of concern in our communities as a result of
the violent disorder playing out across the UK, with those that seek to divide
us using misinformation and rumour to further their cause.
Across the country, far rights extremists have used a tragedy to attack Muslim communities as well as those that are seeking asylum. Sadly, last night we also witnessed a flare-up of tensions in parts of Birmingham.
We know you will be worried for your own and others’ safety as you are working hard to support others in the city.
We know there have been concerns over the past few days and with the possibility of these progressing through the week, regarding the recent violent unrest we’ve witnessed both nationally and here in Birmingham. Our city is rich in diversity, this is a strength shared by many and is what makes Birmingham special. The unsettling incidents we’ve observed, both online and in our communities, are concerning. It’s completely normal for people to feel uneasy.
The city does have established relationships and protocols to manage such situations. It’s vital that we, as a city and us as your local authority, work together to maintain calm and ensure peace in our city. The safety and well-being of our residents and communities are of the utmost importance and are responsibilities we all share.
It is vital that as a city, we continue to provide the support for those who need it.
Stay informed: We all know that social media can increase anxiety, please follow official channels such as West Midlands Police for the latest accurate news.
Look after each other: In tough times, solidarity is key. Look after your colleagues, extend support, and share useful information. Together, we are stronger and more resilient.

We know this is difficult – and now more
than ever, it is important to stand together as a city. A thank you to everyone who is working on our
response to these terrible events, and helping to keep us all safe.
Yours
sincerely,
Councillor Nicky
