  • A presentation from me about the free ‘Haunted Birmingham’ teaching resources we have available this year, including:
    •  a three-session story-planning pack
    • worksheets to encourage participants to think about ghost story cultures from around the world (e.g. djinns and duppies)
  • Guidance on the timelines of Haunted Birmingham 2024, and how to get your school community involved.

*Free boat trip*

“The spine-chilling wind rushed down the canal, howling like a mourning wolf, causing endless ripples racing through the vast, misty river” – 2023 young writer

Last year, a huge percentage of writers chose to set their stories on Birmingham’s historic canals. So, for the launch event, I have booked a free canal boat trip for 40 teachers, from the International Conference Centre to the CPD at the University of Birmingham.

On the trip, we will read some of the stories aloud – to get everyone in a gothic mood!

We will meet canal-side at the International Conference Centre (Centenary Square, B1 2EA) at 4.30pm.

Parking is available nearby at the Utilita or Brindley Place, or you can use public transport to the ICC. You will need to make your own way home after the event – there are regular 6-minute trains back to New Street (near the ICC).

If you can’t make the boat trip, please simply join us on campus at 17.15 for the event: it’s an optional treat!

Places are limited, so please only book this option if you can definitely make it.

I think Haunted Birmingham 2024 will be a special, and especially Brummie, literacy opportunity.
