The Sutton Coldfield NNS team hope that you all had a merry
Christmas and a very happy New Year!
A New Year brings much excitement and hope. It is a time for
reflection and a time of aspiration for what the next twelve months have in
store.
But this January, above all, we hope that everyone is
keeping safe and healthy. Birmingham has experienced a Level 2 Cold Weather
Alert, whilst Covid-19 figures are on the rise once more.
The last few days have seen temperatures plummet and snow
and rain have fell with increasing regularity, but the weather should improve
next week. So wrap up warm, or stay indoors when you can until then.
In terms of Covid-19, cases are on the rise in the city, as
they are nationally, once again.
According to the
Birmingham Council website, of the ten wards with the highest case rates in the
city (cases per 100,000 population), six are in the Sutton Coldfield constituency.
As was suggested by Brian Carr of BVSC recently, there are a
number of steps we can all take to ensure that we keep our loved ones safe,
including getting vaccinated and supporting the vaccination programme where
possible, ensuring social distancing, testing regularly, especially if you are
displaying symptoms and keeping an eye out for any changing restrictions.
Sutton Coldfield does have a high vaccine uptake for all
three available doses, which will go a long way to lessening the severity of
the Omicron wave. This is, of course, good news for the constituency. There are only seven wards in
the whole city that have above 60% uptake for the booster dose and they are all
found in Sutton Coldfield, whilst the uptake for the first two doses in the
Sutton constituency also proved to be significantly higher than the city average.
We hope you are all faring well in these cold conditions and
are keeping safe amidst this current Covid wave.
