Happy New Year from the Prevention and Communities (P&C) Commissioning Team with a focus on Sutton Coldfield NNS

The Prevention and Communities (P&C) Commissioning Team want to share some of the fantastic work happening in communities all over Birmingham. Each month, we focus on a different constituency to share local knowledge and showcase the wide range of initiatives taking place. For January we are focusing on Sutton Coldfield constituency, as well as some city-wide provision (see image right of this month's front page featuring news from the Sutton Coldfield NNS). For our small commissioning team 2021 has been a momentous year with lots to celebrate!

From April we extended existing Neighbourhood Network Scheme (NNS) contracts for 12 months whilst holding conversations with our partner organisations, staff, and citizens about what a recommissioned NNS should look like. In July, Cabinet fully endorsed the NNS giving permission to recommission it for a further five to seven years, starting from April 2022.

In November, organisations submitted their bids for NNS contracts. Allowing time for our internal governance processes we should be able to announce the successful bidders in early February 2022. We must also highlight the great news that our Prevention and Communities projects have their funding extended until Autumn 2023!

Speaking at a recent provider forum Cllr. Hamilton, the Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said to the Prevention and Communities grantees: “Between you you’ve helped thousands of people. That’s been the difference between not being well or being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel as they know people are holding them. Our thanks go to all our providers and partner organisations for the fantastic work they have done to strengthen communities and support citizens to lead happy, health, independent lives!"

The Prevention and Communities Team wish you all a Happy New Year!
