Accessing information, advice and guidance from adult social care in Birmingham - engagement event and Citizen Scorecard

Adult Social Care are inviting Birmingham citizens who currently use their services to take part in discussion about how you access advice and guidance in the city. By answering some questions about services this will open up the floor to further discussion.

The questions initially being asked are scored on as follows, but these may be tweaked during the conversation with colleagues at Adult Social Care:

Engagement Manager Quality & Improvement, Adult Social Care Directorate, John McMahon is  inviting people who use support and services from adult social care in Birmingham to share their views:

"You may well be aware that we have undertaken a number of surveys and engagements recently and one of the subjects that has come up is how difficult it can be to find information about what we do and how to get advice and support as a citizen in the city.

"We would very much like to hear more about this in detail from you about what are the issues you find and in relation to what services and also what you think we can do to make it better. Your views are really important – and if it’s difficult for you to find information – then it will be difficult for others and that’s not what we want!

"We are therefore organising a face-to-face meeting to discuss the subject of ‘Accessing information, advice and guidance from adult social care’. We are trying a new approach to making sure we get detailed information from you – this is highlighted below:

1.           The first meeting will include smaller discussion groups that talk through the issue and listen to you as the citizens. You are the experts on the barriers you may face – we can only guess in some instances. This meeting is scheduled for 5th July 2024 from 10am-12noon at The Council Offices, 10 Woodcock Street, Birmingham B7 4BL (next to Aston University Campus).

2.           This is then followed by a meeting with officers from adult social care to get their views.  They will consider the same questions as citizens.

3.           Finally – and if you are able to attend the first and a further meeting - we would like 8 or so Citizens to attend a meeting with officers to agree what solutions come be put in place to make it easier for citizens to access information going forward.  The details of this meeting are:  10th July 2024 10am-12noon at the same venue, 10 Woodcock Street, Birmingham B7 4BL (next to Aston University Campus).

"If you are able to help us, and sadly I am sorry that we cannot fund any travel expenses due to our council’s financial position, please can we ask you to complete a short form to register your interest so we capture all the details of where you live and what services you receive. We also have limited numbers, so if you can’t attend the meetings this time around, there will be further opportunities in the future. The registration form is here: Expression of interest form"

It would be great if we could be represented at the discussion by Citizens who use Adult Social Care support and services in our constituency of Sutton Coldfield, though the invitation is citywide.

Sutton Coldfield Neighbourhood Network Scheme would encourage Citizens to share their experiences and views on this important issue around information, advice and guidance. Its important to have your voice heard and influence future development of services locally and across the city.
